Your Guide to Sustainable Fabrics

Fab Lab International, where we believe that the future of textiles is one of transparency, innovation, and respect for our planet. The world of sustainable fabrics can be complex, filled with a variety of terms and claims. This guide is designed to clarify the key types of eco-friendly materials and help you understand how they contribute to a more responsible industry.

We go beyond simple labels to provide a deeper look into the entire lifecycle of our fabrics—from the raw materials they come from to how they are processed and how they impact the environment. By understanding the unique story of each fiber, you can make informed choices that align with your values.

Organic Fabrics

Fab Lab provides premium organic cotton, wool, and hemp, cultivated without the use of harmful chemicals, synthetic pesticides, or genetically modified organisms. GOTS-certified organic cotton, in particular, is a leading growth category, highly preferred for its reduced chemical use and water waste.

Recycled Fabrics

The extensive recycled fabrics offerings include high-quality polyester (rPET fabric) derived from repurposed plastic bottles, nylon from ocean fishing nets, and innovative recycled cotton solutions. These materials significantly reduce the need for virgin raw materials, conserve energy, and minimize waste generation and pollution. Fab Lab prioritizes GRS certified fabrics to ensure verified recycled content and responsible production throughout the supply chain.

Regenerated Fabrics

Fab Lab specializes in regenerated cellulose fibers like Tencel™ (Lyocell) and Modal, which are derived from sustainably grown wood pulp. EcoVero™ viscose is also a key offering, distinguished by its lower water and energy consumption in production compared to conventional viscose, often utilizing closed-loop processes that recycle solvents.

Other Sustainable Natural Fibers

Beyond the certified organic range, Fab Lab sources and develops other natural fibers such as European linen, hemp fabric, and ramie, which are known for their inherent low water and pesticide requirements during cultivation, making them exceptionally eco-friendly choices.
